Lafarge Harbour Plant
Owner: Lafarge Canada
Engineer: CWA Engineering Inc.
Lafarge constructed this new facility to secure a larger share of the booming Vancouver concrete market. The plant is located on the south shore of Vancouver harbour. The work consisted of:
- Site preparation including excavation, embankment fills, lock block preloading
- Mechanical, electrical, telecommunication utilities
- Foundation excavation and preparation
- Lock block aggregate storage bins
- Shoreline stabilization
In total, over 15,000 lock blocks were placed on the site
The site also had a nesting eagle living in a tree that Lafarge wanted to preserve for conservation. Gemco built a protection zone around the tree to ensure the protection of the eagle habitat.
